Slovenia is well-known for its beautiful landscapes — lakes, mountains, caves, and other natural attractions make this country perfect for adventurers and hikers. However, nature is not the only Slovenian distinctive “feature”. Slovenians love coffee — an average resident consumes 3 kg of coffee per year (at home). Another interesting fact is that in 2021 Slovenia imported around 22000 tons of coffee.

This love for coffee is reflected in a wide variety of coffee shops. Thus, we have already reviewed top coffee places in Maribor, as well as locations offering coffee to go in Ljubljana.

However, since Slovenians love drinking coffee at home, there is also a diversity of roasters selling single-origin coffee, blends, various coffee accessories, and so on. There are so many of them that making a choice can be challenging, but we are here to help. We have prepared a list of the best coffee roasters, so keep reading to dive into Slovenian roasting culture.

1. Banibeans

The Banibeans micro-roastery offers single-origin coffee from Costa Rica, Kenya, Colombia, and other locations. The coffees are sold only in beans and are suitable for filter brewing. Note that the roastery itself isn’t open to the public yet, but you can still experience their coffee at specific coffee shops. More information about the Banibeans history (and not only) is provided here.

2. STOW Coffee Roasters

STOW Coffee Roasters delivers the ultimate coffee experience. First of all, they roast and sell coffee. Secondly, you can visit their coffee shop in Ljubljana. Thirdly, there are a lot of masterclasses and courses to choose from. The coffee selection includes single-origin coffee (Costa Rica, Ethiopia, etc.) and blends. All the coffees are hand-picked and purchased from farmers, and the offerings on the STOW website change seasonally. Here is a detailed review.

3. Mala Pražarna

Mala Pražarna is a micro-roaster and a small coffee shop at the same time. Located in Ljubljana, they offer exclusively single-origin coffee (for instance, from Brazil) along with some accessories like aeropress filters. Note that if you like cats, you can easily fall in love with this place, since the design was inspired exactly by a cat. Here is a full review providing more details.

4. La Huella

La Huella offers coffee exclusively from Panama, and their products have already won several awards. Beans get roasted only after you place an order, so any coffee you buy here will be very fresh. Besides, all the coffees are packed into CO2-neutral bags. In case it’s challenging for you to make a choice, consider ordering a discovery set containing four different samples. More details can be found here.

5. Rjavi Tukan

Being a roaster and a coffee importer, Rjavi Tukan offers solely single-origin specialty coffee from Brazil. You can even buy some green coffee to roast yourself. As for the already roasted options, each of them comes with a wide selection of grinding types: beans, espresso, for french press, and so on. Besides, on the Rjavi Tukan website, you can find detailed information about every coffee they offer. Here are some more details.

6. Pražarna

Apart from roasted coffee, Pražarna offers a rather uncommon product — biodegradable coffee capsules. As for traditional coffee, there are single-origin coffee (Brazil, Panama, etc.) and some blends. The same applies to capsules — there are single-origin and blended options. Note that you can experience Pražarna drinks at their coffee shop before making a purchase. Check out the full review here.

7. Mariposa

Initially, Mariposa was a coffee shop, but at some point, it underwent a transformation. Now it’s a roastery offering not only freshly roasted coffee but also various workshops for those who want to get some coffee-related skills. As for the coffee itself, you can go for both single-origin options (Colombia, Ethiopia, etc.) and blends. A lot of accessories are also available. In case you are interested in serving Mariposa coffee at your restaurant, that’s possible, too. Find more details here.

8. Coronini

Coronini offers a great diversity of coffee products: single-origin coffee (Peru, Brazil, etc.), blends, decaf coffee, pods, and capsules for Nespresso machines. For roasting, they use the Joper equipment. If interested, you can also establish a partnership with Coronini and serve their coffee in your bar — they can even provide you with all the essential promo materials and coffee machines. Read the full review here.

9. Escobar

Choosing Escobar means getting extremely fresh coffee — they roast it individually, for every specific order. Besides, here you can count on unusual flavors and aromas, for instance, coffee with strawberry sponge cake notes. The roastery offers a variety of single-origin coffee (Mexico, Honduras, etc.) and blends. You can also purchase some accessories: cups, hand grinders, and others. Read this article to learn more.

Various coffee accessories like filters, aeropress coffee makers, and others, are available as well. Note that sometimes you can try their coffee at various events. Besides, it can be found in specific Spar and Interspar shops. Here is the full review.

11. Kolektiv 22

Kolektiv 22 “flavors” its coffee with a unique ingredient — fresh Alpine air. This roastery is located not far from lake Bled, but, obviously, you can still purchase it online or try it at certain Slovenian restaurants. As for the coffee selection, there is only single-origin coffee from Uganda, Nicaragua, and other countries. Decaf options are available. Check out the full review here.

12. Tovarna Kave

Tovarna Kave offers a wide selection of products: single-origin coffee (from Honduras, Colombia, Brazil, etc.), blends, coffee machines and accessories, gift sets, cups, and so on. Some novelties are introduced pretty often, and the beans are roasted weekly so that you can always count on fresh coffee. This review will provide you with more information. Note that prior to online shopping you can try coffee in the Tovarna Kave’s coffee shop — Rooster Coffee.
